The Quandary: Buy or Remodel ? ? ?
We've been here for 11+ years, and we have changed a little . . . unfortunately, our home has not. So we decided to look into either moving or remodeling. The thought of moving can be daunting - especially when you have as much 'stuff' as we do . . . but the prospect of a home better suited to the way we live was a motivating force.
The key factors we were looking for were a significant master bathroom (Kris always did want a marble walk-in shower), a 'Great Room' instead of independent living/dining/family rooms, and single-story. We found some of the above in many of the new-home models, but none could provide all three of our requirements. To make matters worse, the inventory of used homes in Sonoma County is very low . . . and what is out there is overpriced and would still require some modifications --- which left us with the remodel.....
After consulting with an architect, we decided to remodel without adding on the house - an addition would price our house out of the neighborhood. And so the suffering begins . . . . .
